Retired Partner, Latham and Watkins
David Shapiro practiced law at Latham & Watkins LLP since graduating from Northwestern University School of Law in 1988. He represents clients in real estate, mergers and acquisitions and financing transactions, particularly in the health care, hospitality and energy industries. David also represents his firm in all of its own leasing and real estate activities around the world. From 2000 to 2006, David lived in Tokyo where he was the managing partner of the firm’s Tokyo office. David is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and New Trier West high school. Prior to moving to Tokyo, David was a member of the adjunct faculty of Northwestern University School of Law where he taught a course in structuring transactions. David was on the board of directors of GrandFamilies Program of Chicago for 5 years, and has been on the board of directors of The House Theatre of Chicago since 2011.
David has many interests, including foreign travel, food and entertaining. An avid theater fan, David has always wanted to be as involved as possible for someone with no talent. That started in high school, where he managed the ushers and helped run the house for high school productions, progressed to legal representation of a Broadway theater company, and now includes investing in a number of Chicago, Broadway and London productions. Unfortunately, those investments usually turn out to be no more than really expensive tickets to opening night.
